DIY: $0.99 Antiquing

For that past year I have had a slight obsessions with urns and topiaries.  They have that timeless and classic appeal.  Instead of the huge expensive flower arrangements (we had originally asked for) on either side of the aisles for our ceremony, we opted for large topiaries . . . but where to find reasonable priced urns?

All the urns I found online were super expensive ...

So instead I searched Ross, Marshalls, Lowes, Target, random nurseries and finally found two urns at Homegoods for $39.99 each.  Unfortunately  one was green and one was brown, so ....

... My wonderful fiance spray painted them both grey ...

The urns looked nice, but they were missing that rustic antique feel.  I didn't know how to antique cement with paint, but I came up with a nifty little trick that I like to call "CHALK ANTIQUING."

I am a big believer in using what you've got lying around the house for craft projects.  This is perfect for all you lovely ladies out there that want to be DIY but say they aren't "crafty" - anyone could do this! ;)

I took a box of $0.99 chalk, broke the chalk up, and crushed it in a mug until it turned to powder.  Using my hands, and an old paint brush, I applied the chalk to the urns.  I couldn't believe how well it worked, and it only took 5 minutes!

And here is how it turned out...

We also built and stained the wooden wine crates the urns are standing on, to add some height.

LLLove,
Jess
