Makeup 101

Chanel Makeup Artists and Linen, Lace, & Love
team up to give you 14 of our Best Makeup Tips
for any Big Day.

CHANEL Makeup Artist's Top 7 Tips (with our recommended products):

* Lip Gloss: Most people (including myself) just swipe lip gloss across your lips in a horizantal line, but if you want the gloss to last longer then brush it downward, so that it fills in the natural lines on your lips.

* Foundation: If you're not a big foundation person, just put about a dime size of it just on your "T Zone" and then blend outward.  (your "T Zone" is across your forehead and down the center of your face.) We like Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 $45.00.

*Blush: For daytime, apply some blush just on the apples of your cheeks, and for nightime do the same and blend upward in a backwards "C" shape.  We like Dandelion Blush by Benefit $28.00, as a highlight blush.

*Eye Shadow: Don't put too much shimmer or lighter (ex. white) under your brows.  People will focus on that, and you want it to blend and have people focus on your eyes.
      - Use the lightest color and brush it over the entire eyelid.
      - With the darkest color make a "C" for Chanel on the outside corners of your eyelids and blend in.
      - With the second to darkest color swipe a little in the crease of your eye.  Darker colors will close your eye, and medium colors will open them.
      - Finish with a little dab of light irredescant shadow on the center of your lid (right where your pupil would be if your eyes were open), to open the eyes more.
We like Chanel's Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow $58.00.

*Mascara: Take the mascara wand and wipe off the excess mascara on the tip of the wand with a tissue, then apply in a back and forth motion (they called it "windshield wipers").  And for nightime, brush mascara from behind your lashes and curl up to help your eyelashes curl and add volume.  We like Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara $7.79...shh don't tell Chanel.

*Lipliner: Always start from the outside and work your way in (she applied the lipliner from each corner of my lip and in), then blend with a lip brush and add lipstick and/or lip gloss as desired.

*Liquid Shimmer: Adding a little liquid glow (they called it the "J.Lo Glow") as a finishing touch in a "C" around your eyes and on the top of your cheek bones makes your skin look dewy and glowing. We like Chanel's Soleil Tan De Chanel Sheer Illuminating Fluid $48.00.

Linen, Lace, & Love's Top 7 Makeup Tips:

*Bronzer:  Growing up in California, we always wanted that sun-kissed skin.  Best way to cheat that effect with makeup is to brush some bronzer in a "3" and backwards "3" shape on either side of your face.  Also add a little line of bronzer on either side of your nose to add a slimming effect.  And lastly, use a little bronzer to shade under your jaw line and downward so your makeup on your face blends with the rest of your skin. (also make sure to match your foundation from your face to your neck, so it blends in a natural look).  We like Stila Sun Bronzing Powder, Shade 1 $28.00.

*Liquid Liner: Using a black or brown liquid liner with a little felt point applicator, line the insides of your upper eyelids (the little line right underneath your lashes) to make your eyes stand out more.  This is a great trick if you are wearing minimal makeup, but want your eyes to pop.  We like L'Oreal Lineur Intense Felt Tip Eyeliner $8.99.

*Tricks to Make you Look More Awake: With a small brush, add a little concealer on the insides of your bottom eyelids, and brush a shimmery irridescent powder in the inside corner and underneath your eyes.  We like tarte rest assured brightening wand, Nude Pink $22.00.

*Lip Gloss: After applying lipstick or a colored lipgloss, add a dab of shimmery light or gold lipgloss in the middle of your bottom lip to improve your pout.  We like MAC lipgloss in Plushglass $19.50.

*Sunscreen: If you are being photographed that day, as good as it is for your skin, skip the sunscreen.  It will photograph white and reflective.

*Under Eye Concealer: If you keep getting "racoon eyes" in pictures (which means your concealer is too light of a shade for your skin tone), switch to a salmon colored under eye concealer.  We like Bobbi Brown Corrector Light Bisque $22.00, and YSLTouche Eclat Radiant Touch $40.00.

*To Finish: Spritz your face with a water mist to set your makeup for the day.
