The 2012 Oscars Best Dressed List

Though we may not have seen many movies this year, we tuned into the 84th Annual Oscars to appreciate the stunning fashions on the red carpet, as well as the talented actresses in them.  Sequins and beads, covering pale pastels, glittered down the red carpet Sunday, with the occasional pop of vibrant color, but it wasn't just the nominees that shown brightly last night.  Our favorite gown on the carpet belonged to TV Host, Giuliana Rancic.  These are our personal favorites from this glamorous celebration...

But the style didn't stop at the Theatre formerly known as The Kodak.  Some of these after party looks upstaged their predecessors:

Isn't fashion fun?

Words to Live By

I'm having one of those days where I would really like to stay in my sweatpants, not put on make up, and maybe watch a movie in bed . . . call it a case of the "Mondays?"  Life might be perfect if it were as the picture above says, but that would get boring awfully fast.  Aspire to be the best you you can be.  Be a blessing in whatever work place you are in, and smile knowing you are worthwhile.  Now go carpe that diem!  Happy Monday! :)

Mad About Marilyn

The most iconic blonde in hollywood history is the talk of the town.  Her classic look never goes out of style, and her story never grows old.  This orphan turned superstar is the picture of the American Dream, and the hardships, and glory, that come with it.  The world fell in love with Marilyn Monroe in the 50's and has never let go.

Michelle Williams has been nominated for an Oscar for her brilliant performance of Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn.

The new TV show Smash, features Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty both vying for the role of a play Marilyn Monroe on the Broadway stage.

The hit TV show Gossip Girl, did a tribute to Ms. Monroe with Blake Lively's rendition of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend".

And it may not have been Marilyn who originally stared in "Creature from the Black Lagoon", but her iconic white bathing suit lives on in "Ryan Murphy's Killer Fashion Shoot" Elle Magazine did with the cast of Glee.

Shop This Trend:

Kate Spade is channeling her 50's glam with her Spring line:

Anthropologie is also featuring this retro look with their dresses and swimwear lines.

So, enjoy the movie, enjoy the TV shows, enjoy the fashion, and enjoy the timeless story of the most glamorous Cinderella of them all.  Thank you Marilyn, for decades of inspiration.

Grilled Lamb Chops

I got this recipe from my Aunt Mae, yes her cooking will come up a lot.  It is from the cook book Everyday Italian by Giada DiLaurentiis.  I loved how simple it was to make, and it definitely made my husband very happy.  Also, the cooking times my Aunt Mae gave me worked perfectly.  The meat was a perfect medium-rare when we cut into it.  This recipe is a must try!

2 Main Course Servings

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
2 large garlic cloves
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary leaves, coarsely chopped
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
pinch of cayenne pepper
6 lamb chops (each about 3/4 inch thick)

* make sure to peel the skin off the garlic cloves and chop.

In a food processor, blend the oil, garlic, thyme, sea salt, and cayenne pepper to form a paste.  Rub the paste over the lamb chops and marinate for at least 30 minutes and up to 4 hours.

Heat a grill pan over a high flame until almost smoking.  Add the chops and sear for 2 minutes on each side.  Reduce the heat to medium and cook the lamb chops to desired doneness, about 3 minutes longer per side for medium-rare.  Transfer the lamb chops to two plates and serve.

Now eat and enjoy!

Black and White Inspiration Boards

This classic color combo will never go out of style.  It photographs well, and has a clean and sophisticated feel.  You can even add a pop of a fun bright color like yellow, pink, or teal to mix things up a little.  With a palette this striking and neutral, the possibilities are endless . . .

Words to Live By

Happy Presidents' Day!

Here are some wise words from our forefathers.  On this Presidents' Day, with the sales and the three day weekend, think about what it means to be a leader.  You don't have to be a president, or even a government official.  You lead people everyday whether you know it or not.  Just remember that you have the power to make change...what will your quote say?
