DIY: Pom-Pom Necklace out of Old Jeans

Whenever I have something that is so worn out I can't even give it away, I save it, and hit up Pinterest for ideas on what I can make out of it!  This time it was my old, favorite, pair of jeans that were on the chopping block, and this is one of the ways I gave them new life.

1. I used felt sheets from Michaels, they were 29 cents each.  But anything soft, with a little structure to it, would work.
2. Scissors ~ Fabric scissors are nice, if you have them.
3. Glue Gun and about 4-5 glue sticks.
4. Necklace Chain ~ I got mine from Michaels.
Make 5, 1-1.5 inch circles out of the felt.  (If you want smaller pom-poms make the circles 1 in.  For this tutorial I used 1.5.)
I found a lid that was the perfect size, so I used that as my template.
Use that same template to make circles on your jeans.  I used the inside of the denim because it was lighter, and easier to see the circles.  You will need about 7-9 circles per pom.

Arrange the poms how you would like them for your necklace (*remember that the chain will pull up, so don't go out too wide, unless you reinforce the back of the necklace with a popsicle stick or something, so that it can't bend.) Then hot glue the middle 3 down, and leave the outside 2 off.
I took the middle link out of the chain, so that it was open, and then hot glued it onto the backs of the outside poms.
Glue down the remaining 2 poms where you would like them.

Then cut the necklace out, as close as you can to the poms.

Wear and enjoy!

Stay tuned for more DIY's for your old jeans.

Our picks for Oscar's Best Dressed

I hope you all enjoyed the fashion show last night! Oh, I mean the Oscars.  Hollywood's biggest night never seems to disappoint when it comes to beautiful people in beautiful gowns.  Coral colors, and mermaid cut dresses may have ruled the Golden Globes, but last night it was nuetral colors, beads, sequins, sheath dresses, and ball gowns that were on display.  Here are our favorites...

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta

Charlize Theron in Dior Couture

Stacy Keibler in Naeem Khan

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive

Jennifer Aniston in Valentino (Beautiful dress, bad posture.)

Jennifer Garner in Gucci Premiere

Amanda Seyfired in Alexander McQueen

Halle Berry in Versace

Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive

Entertaining Tip #1

This may sound silly, or inconsequential, but we promise it will make your life easier when throwing a party.  Leave your heels by the front door!

That's right! Get all ready for your soiree, but leave your heels by the front door.  Run around putting out your last minute food things, and fussing the decor footloose and fancy free.  Then once that door bell rings with your first guests you can scamper up to the door, slide on your heels and be ready for the fun, without your feet already being in pain.  Save your feet, and some time!

You're welcome!

Oscar Party Ideas

The 85th Academy Awards are Sunday, February 24th, so it's time to start party planning!  Let us help...

These adorable Oscar Cookies are by Sweet Sugar Belle.  Find the full tutorial here.

Party Theme Ideas:
Have everyone dress up as their favorite character from any Oscar Winning Movie...the possibilities are endless!

Have everyone dress to impress for a Red Carpet party, complete with Photo wall, or Red Carpet Couple Photo Booth.  For some more fun decor, dress up theater candy in hurricane vines and junior mints will never have looked so good.  If you want to spring for the real thing you can go to Red Carpet Runway for red carpet and Vinyl photo wall packages.

Always a classic Oscar's Theme.  Take a few tips from a pro like The Hostess With The Mostest, and use old black and white photos from movies and put them in frames all around the room.

Need some A list celebs to line the red carpet, or just stand in the corner for photo ops?...Pick from hundreds of movie star cardboard cut outs at Standup Posters.

Some Decor Ideas:

Put this Movie Camera Pinata on a stand, and set up a scene around your TV.  Make your food and dessert table "Craft Services", and hang a star on the bathroom door for the actor's trailer.  Maybe even throw in a collapsible, directors chair or two.

Put up posters of the films nominated...

"Swag bags" for goodie bags

Use this tutorial we did on Embossed Gift Bags (here).  Use a black bag, an Oscar stamp, and gold embossing powder.

I know that was a lot to take in, but we hope you got some fun ideas to make your 85th Academy Awards party unique and memorable!  If all else fails, just pop some popcorn and watch the Oscars in your PJs.  There's really no wrong answer.
